Grocery Shopping Uganda Style

Today we bought some goodies for the children at the orphanage in Luwafu.  220 pounds of rice.  $84.50. That’s $0.38 per pound.  Here is a spiritual challenge … How can I make an impact on the world, with two quarters?  Now you know how!

Dried Beans.  The Big red ones we purchase in the store at home …

220 pounds cost us $0.36 per pound.

Six dozen eggs… $5.50

10 quarts of cooking oil … $20

15 large heads of cabbage … $0.56 each

A half bushel of tomatoes … $2.81

A half bushel of onions … $5.50

12 pounds of sugar … $10.00

A half bushel of green peppers … $2.25

A half stalk, about 40 bananas … $2.00

A half bushel of carrots … $2.81

5 huge bunches of celery, $0.75

And finally,

10 pounds of really lean beef.  $20

And the butcher gave us another 10 pounds of bones to roast and cook with the vegetables, rice and beans for flavor … and to make soup from.  Yum!

You did this!  Each of you that supports Damascus Road with your gifts, your love and your prayers, made this happen today.  You did this!

Your love, prayers and financial sacrifices are truly making lives better.  Your faithfulness is the Gospel being lived out, each and every day.  With all the gratitude and thanks the Team of Damascus Road could offer, Thank You!  May God Bless you!

Luwafu Church

Oh what a day !!!

The house was packed at the Luwafu Church today.  My message was from Luke 16.  No one really likes preaching from that chapter.

It actually turned out to be more of a healing and deliverance message than I expected.  Lots of people were convicted about their lack of faith, and their selfish … self-centered natures.

The best part actually developed into a ministry team’s commitment to communicate, and to work together.  That was a HUGE blessing.  The only thing missing today … was YOU!

Spiritual Leadership Conference

I arrived early to the Spiritual Leadership Conference today. So many had come early to pray and to prepare. It was a great day, about 220 men and women attended.

Today’s theme was taking the risk, to go the distance … Spiritually!

A Day for Blessings

Today is a day for blessings.  I have been busy, busy, busy these past three weeks.  And now, with a slight change in my plans, God has ordered my steps, and told me to rest, to regroup, and rejoice.

Today was supposed to be the beginning week of Seminary Classes in Tubur.  Just like the U.S., sometimes the best planning, doesn’t work as smoothly as we would like.  I am still in Kampala, recognizing that I have been given a gift.  These next 5 days are my Heavenly gift, to rest and reflect, to rejoice and remember the goodness of God

This is my view from the Guest House where I’m staying.  I am writing and reading.  I am resting, and remembering.  Today I pray for spiritual recouperation.

Luwafu Orphanage Bathrooms

Finally met with a contractor here to quote us on the construction of bathrooms and showers for the Luwafu Orphanage.  I was very pleased!

My concern was not in the construction, but the increased water needs.  We were struggling with a potential reality of installing a well here, which is expensive and often complicated.  But God was working things out!  I was shocked to find out that the Orphanage is paying less than a dollar per day for water.

I think I could eat out one less time each month to cover the expense for 150 plus kids, and including the teachers and staff to take a shower and have a sanitary place!

Your financial support of this ministry is both crucial, and impactful.  With so little, Damascus Road has been able to do so much!  Thank You for your faithfulness!  Thank You for your friendship.

Bible Blessings

The first Bible This little girl, has ever owned!

All the Scripture these kids have, is what they hear.  But as so many of us may take for granted, there is a wonderful journey with the Lord, as we spend time in His Word.

Look at that smile!  She was so excited, that she took her Bible, and started running around, showing it to her friends and classmates.

Ahhh … Overwhelmed with joy!  I need more of that in my life!  How about you?

Gomba Seminary

This is the new Seminary location in Gomba, Uganda. We were about 2 hours from Kampala to the west.

87 pastors and church leaders came today, to begin a new journey with Damascus Road. The image of the church is attached. A few years ago now, many of you helped build the roof. In front of the church, just left of the edge of the church, is the drinking water well we installed a few years ago.

Today we discussed Spiritual Leadership, Theology, Doctrine, Church History, and effective Church Leadership.

Dormatory Beds

Today was an awesome day!  I don’t even know where, or how to begin.  I guess the easiest way to describe my feelings and emotions, is being emotionally and spiritually Wrecked!

While we were teaching the Seminary classes in Luwafu this past week, we identified an urgent need that we weren’t expecting.  The kids dormatories needed immediate help.  Their beds were in critical condition, and many of the children, were sleeping on the concrete floors.  Dare I say that the beds also had unwanted guests too?

Second, we were emotionally wrecked when we discovered that the resident teachers were also sleeping on the concrete floors.  I had no idea.

Because of your love, support and prayers, we all were able to make a significant impact into the life of the children, the teachers and Pastor Paul the director.

Special thanks to my son Jason Fuller for his help and compassion as well.  He took charge, found the solution, developed the plan and negotiated the pricing to make this happen.

Grace Church, Kampala

Wow!  What a day!  What a wonderful day at Grace Church, Kampala.

The Lord had been working on Pastor Rick for well over a year, to bring his message, on this day.  A year prior, as Rick had prepared to deliver his message on ‘We Need a New Story,”  COVID changed the world, and the Spring 2020 trip was cancelled, forcing everyone to exit Uganda immediately.  A year later, Rick delivered the message.

50 to 60 men and women responded to the message in powerful and visible ways.  The message was about the story we allow others to see in our lives, the stories we are always trying to create and protect.  We all need a new story!  A story of our relationship with Jesus Christ, leading us through life to the story of eternity!

The truth is, our story . . . is not about us at all.  Our story is about where we will spend eternity.  What a story that will be!

Well Repair

Sometimes it is the simple things that make the greatest impact!

A few years ago, Damascus Road installed a drinking water well in a community where as many as 17,000 people had no access to clean water.  We installed a well.  But the contractor, without our knowledge or permission, used inferior materials that caused the well to disintegrate on the inside.

These images are from the well repair.  When everything was finished, Rick tried out the well for himself.  What a fitting response to the well’s performance!  Amen!  It is finished!  Amen!  It is done!  Amen!  People were blessed.
